How good are clay printers

    Keith from Emily Carr was showcasing a pneumatic clay printer at Vancouver Makerfaire 2016. The printed clay models were heavy and would collapse on itself.

    How do we improve this technology? Let's hear it.

    I have an idea to deposit dry sand from a nozzle trailing the extruder. The sand would not only fall all around the printed clay supporting it during printing, but it should suck a lot of moisture from the wet clay and help solidify things. I see it working almost like a reverse SLS machine, where he finished piece emerges from a tub of dry sand...

    @travershenry Thoughts?

    Is that still a pneumatic clay printer? or is it more like a powder printer where you deposit the powder clay, go in with water, and continue.

    Actually I wonder how that would actually work.. would the clay powder be able to absorb the liquid fast enough or would the surface area of the powder cause it to bead up instead.

    I'm thinking it's a wet clay printer, exactly as shown in the picture. dry powder sand is placed around the printed clay as it is extruded to support it in place.
