PPEs are here to stay for the duration of the pandemic, and we think the post future will likely be different to what we know as well. It's this thought that drives us to have a different dialogue both in approach and product.
Tinkerine has always looked at products from a different angle. A design-centric approach that makes products for people, and driven by the people it will impact the most.
It's clear that in an era of face coverings communication is increasing more important.
There are some things that are important to us for this product. Somethings we did not want to compromise on.
- Clear dome for lip reading,
- Comfort and seal
- Fully Sanitizable and Reusable
- Safety first for those that wear it
We went through a few dozen iterations...focus on size, and form, then onto materials focusing in on comfort and durability. This process is important. We knew it would be hard to make a 1 size fit all. In reality it's near impossible. This process looks to weigh the Pros and Cons of each decision.
(The below image only captures a slight sliver of the design work done)
So lets talk about safety and what that means to us.
We've seen a lot of ventilator style face masks that utilize a set of valves that allow the exhaled air to escape, this gives comfort to the user at the exchange of safety of those around. Safety for us means keeping both the user as well as those around is safe. A valved system didn't offer that, it is something that is important to us in the overall design of this product and we are pretty happy with the design that we came up with
